Within the present research, acetylacetone derivatives have been synthesised and tested using UV-Vis spectrophotometry; the derivatives include: 3-allyl-2,4-pentanedione, 3-benzyl2,4-pentanedione, 3-butyl2,4-pentanedione, benzoylacetone, dibenzoylmethane, 3-methyl2,4-pentanedione, 3-trimethylsilylpropyl-2,4-pentanedione and their Cu(II ) and Co(II ) complex compounds. Furthermore, EI mass spectra were recorded of 2,4-pentanedione with various metal cations of general formula Me(acac)n, where n=2-4. The possibility of using acetylacetonate tin(IV)derivatives as precursors in the sol-gel method was also investigated. The compounds tested were found to have interesting spectroscopic properties, with high stability constants; they may be successfully used in various areas, e.g. as sol-gel precursors, etc.
