Cadmium in phosphate fertilizers; ecological and economical aspects

Cadmium is a carcinogenic and mutagenic element, thus efforts to limit its effect on environment and human organism are perfectly understandable. The EU is currently working on the reduction of Cd content in phosphate fertilizers, which are pointed at as an important source of this heavy metal in soil. The opinions, whether proposed solutions are reasonable and if the technological readiness of the solutions is sufficient, are strongly divided.
